3rd Indo Japan Workshop held in New Delhi –

Ø The 3rd Indo-Japan Workshop on Disaster
Risk Reduction was held on 18 March 2019 in New Delhi .
Ø It was organized with an objective of enhancing
collaboration between research institutes, cities and private sector in the
field of Disaster Risk Reduction.
Ø The Government of India and Japan signed a Memorandum of
Cooperation (MoC) in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in September
2017.
i-help launched in Assam
–
Ø The ‘i-help’ initiative to promote digital electoral
literacy in Assam
was launched in view of the forthcoming Lok-Sabha poll.
Ø It is a joint initiative of the office of the Chief
Electoral Officer (CEO) and Common Service Centers (CSC).
Ø The CSCs are internet-enabled access points spread
throughout the country delivering various government and non-government digital
services to the citizens.
Gopi Thonakal qualified
for World Athletics –

Ø Gopi Thanakal qualified for the World Athletics
Championships in Marathon, to be held in Doha
in September-October 2019.
Ø He achieved after finishing 11th in the
Seoul International Marathon, clocking his personal best time of 2 hours 13
minutes 39 seconds.
Ø This was the 2nd best ever by an Indian
after the 4-decade old national record of 2 hours 12 minutes held by Shivnath
Singh.
Ola signed MoU with
Telangana Government –

Ø Ola signed MoU with the Government of Telangana on 18
March 2019 to support the efforts in strengthening traffic infrastructure in
the city.
Ø The partnership would se Ola ‘share intelligent
insight’ that enable the government to implement smart business to enhance
‘mobility experience’ in the city.
Ø Ola will work with the government to build innovations
solutions for the city.
Hyundai, KIA to invest
$300 million in Ola –

Ø Hyundai Motor Co and KIA Motors Corp will together
invest $300 million in Ola, playing catch-up in the global rest to invest in
mobility firms.
Ø Hyundai, KIA, and Ola will collaborate to develop
fleet and mobility solutions, electric vehicles and infrastructure specific to
the Indian Market.
Ø Ola’s other investors include SoftBank Group Corp and
Tencent Holdings Ltd.
Alan Krueger passed
away –

Ø Alan Krueger, a groundbreaking Princeton University
economist, passed away recently,.
Ø He served as the top adviser in two Democratic
administrations and was an authority on the labour market.
Ø He also worked for President Barrack Obama as a Top
Treasury official and then as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisor from
2011 to 2013.
Name change of Nagaland
village –
Ø The Center gave its consent for changing the name of
Mangkhi village in Tuensang district of Nagaland to Mungankhun village.
Ø The Central government has given its ‘no-objection’ to
rename 22 villages, towns and railway stations across the country since
December 2017.
Ø Some of the cleared proposals are Arikkod as Areekode
in Malappura, Kerala and Laxman Garh as Adawala in Rajasamand, Rajasthan.
Mizoram Assembly passed
a bill –
Ø The Mizoram Assembly passed the Mizoram Maintenance of
Household Registers Bill, 2019 on 18 March 2019.
Ø The bill seeks to detect foreigners illegally residing
in the northeastern state, that shares an border 700-km with Bangladesh and Myanmar .
Ø The measures proposed under the legislation are
intended to provide a credibal individual identification system.
Military bands to
perform in CSK-RCB opener –

Ø Military bands will perform at the M.A. Chidambaram
Stadium ahead of the opening fixtures of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Ø BCCI will also contribute Rs. 20 crore of the welfare
of the armed forces in the wake of the Pulwama Terror attack, where 44 CRPF
personnel were killed.
Ø Indian players had also paid their respects by
sporting Army camouflague caps in the third ODI in Ranchi .

Ø Businessman Naotoshi Yamada, known as ‘Uncle Olympics’,
passed away due to heart failure recently.
Ø He attended all 14 summer Olympics from the 1964 Tokyo
Games to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro
Games.
Ø He stood out among the audience as he often wore a
traditional Japanese jacket and a golden hat while cheering loudly and waving
the Japanese flag.
Water-resistant
electronic skin created –

Ø Scientists have created a self-healing electronic skin
that could be used into develop a range of devices from water-resistant touch
screen to aquatic soft robots.
Ø The material has been developed by researchers from
the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the University of California .
Ø The electronic skin is created by printing the novel
material into electronic circuits.
Prajnesh Gunneshwaran
rose to 84th position –
Ø In Tennis ,
India ’s
Prajnesh Gunneswaran rose to carrer-high rank of 84 in the latest men’s ranking
of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
Ø In the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, Ankita
Raina constitutes to be India ’s
Top–ranked player at 168.
Ø She was followed by Karman Kaur Thandi, who jumped
seven places to 203.
