DRDO successfully test-fired Nirbhay –
·
India
successfully test-fired its first Sub-Sonic cruise missile, Nirbhay on 15 April
2019.
·
The
launch was conducted from a test range in Odisha at 11:44 a.m.
·
The
missile can be deployed from multiple platform and was launched by DRDO from
complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur.
·
The
last successful trial of ‘Nirbhay’ cruise missile was conducted on November7,
2017.
INS Kozhikode decommissioned –
·
Indian
Naval Ship Kozhikode was decommissioned in a grand ceremony conducted at Naval
Jetty in Vishakhapatnam.
·
Vice
Adm S N Ghodmade, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command was the chief guest for
the occasion.
·
INS
Kozhikode was commissioned on 19 December 1988 at Riga (erstwhile USSR) and was
the sixth and the last of the modified NATYA class of minesweeper.
Notre Dam in Paris caught fire -
·
A
major fire engulfed the medieval cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris, one of the
France’s most famous landmarks.
·
The
850-year-old Gothic buildings spire and roof have collapsed but the main
structure, including the two bell towers, has been saved.
·
Notre-Dame
has stood tall above Paris since the 1200s.
·
A
Unesco World Heritage site, it was built in the 12th and 13th
centuries.
Prajnesh Gunneswaran rose to ranking
80 –
·
In
tennis, India’s Prajnesh Gunneswaran achieved a carrier-high ranking of 80 in
the latest ATP rankings released on 15 April 2019.
·
He
broke into the Top 100 in February, 2019 improved two places to become the sixth
highest in terms of singles ranking in the History of Indian Tennis.
·
Another
Indian Ramkumar Ranathan dropped 16 drops to slip out of the top 150, He is now
at the 157th position.
India arrowed trade deficit with
China –
·
India
cut its trade deficit with China by the most in more than a decade.
·
India’s
export to China jumped 31% year-on-year to $17 billion in the financial year ended
March 31, 2019.
·
In
the process, it cut the bilateral trade deficit by $10 billion to $53 billion.
India, UK renewed MoU –
·
In
an effort to further expand defence cooperation, India and the UK have renewed
the Defence Equipment Memorandum between the two countries.
·
The
Memorandum of Understanding renews a previous Defence Equipment Cooperation MoU
signed on April 1, 1997 which was renewed on April 20, 2007.
Electricity from falling snow created
–
·
Scientists
have designed a first-of-its-kind 3D-printed device that can produce electricity
from falling snow.
·
The
device designed by researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles
(UCLA) in the US in inexpensive, small, thin and flexible like a sheet of
plastic.
·
The
device can work in remote areas because it provides its own power and does not
need batteries.
Datamatics won IMC award –
·
Datamatics
Global Services Ltd. (DGSL) won IMC Digital Technology Awards 2018 under the
excellence in Emerging Technology category for TruBot, its Robotic Process
Automation product and TruAI, its AI platform.
·
The
award ceremony was held on 12th April 2019 at St Regis, Mumbai.
·
The
IMC Awards recognize achievements across all areas of the IT Industry.
Himachal Pradesh celebrated 72nd
State Day –
·
The
72nd Himachal Day was celebrated with gaiety and fervour in the
state on 15 April, 2019.
·
Governor
Acharya Devvrat unfurled the national flag at event on the historic Ridge
maidan in Shimla to mark the Day.
·
He
inspected an impressive parade led by Parade Commander Superintendent of Police
Shakti Singh.
INS Magar reached Mozambique –
·
Another
Indian Naval Ship INS Magar reached Mozambique’s Beira city loaded with
suitable relief material.
·
The
Ship handed over 250 tonnes of rice and 500 KG of epidemic medicines for the
population of Biera affected by Cyclone Idai.
·
The
material was received by Mozambician Minister of Agriculture Higino Francisco
de Marrule.
Jitendra Chaddah: New Chairman of
IESA –
·
Industry
body India Electronics and Semiconductor Association has appointed Jitendra
Chaddah as its chairman.
·
Chaddah,
Intel India Senior director for operations and strategy, has over two decades
of Industry Experience.
·
IESA
also appointed Satya Gupta as the new Vice Chairman and Veerappan V, co-founder
and director.
Army to hold joint exercise with
coast guard –
·
Indian
Army chief General Bipin Rawat said the army is planning to carry out join
training and exercise with the Indian Coast Guard.
·
He
say the coast guard and the Indian Navy maintain coastal security and maritime
surveillance.
·
After
commissioning the coast guard’s offshore patrol vessel (OPV) Veera, he said Veera
would help the coast guard monitor maritime boundaries more effectively.
Swedish Actress Bibi Andersson passed
away –
·
Bibi
Andersson, the Swedish Actress who starred in classic film by compatriot Ingmar
Bergman, including ‘The Seventh Seal’ passed away on 14 April 2019.
·
Andersson
was the only person who have been named best actress four times in its annual
awards.
·
In
1958, Andersson also shared the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival
for her performance in Bergman’s ‘Brink of Life’.
SC banned mining activities in
Kaziranga park –
·
The
Supreme Court has banned all mining activities along the Kaziranga National
Park and catchment areas of rivers originating in Karbi Anglong Hills in Assam.
·
A
bench comprising Justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta issued a notice to the
Assam government and sought its reply within 3 weeks.
