Netanyahu was elected as the new PM of Israel.
·
Mr.
Netanyahu will seek to form a governing coalition in the days ahead.
·
His
Likud party won 35 seats in the election, same as his main opponent from the
Centrist Blue and White Alliance, led by former military chief Benny Gantz.
International Labour Day: 1 May –

·
International
Labour Day, also known as International Worker’s Day or May Day is celebrated
every year on 1 May.
·
The
day celebrated to honour the contribution of working men and women.
·
The
theme of Labour Day 2019 is – Uniting Worker’s for Social and Economic
Advancement.
·
In
India, the first labour Day or May Day was celebrated in 1923 in Chennai.
Obituaries –
·
Former
president of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Negasso Gidada passed
away in Germany in April 2019.
·
Justice
Subhashan Reddy passed away in Hyderabad in April 2019.
India ranked 4th in SIPRI –

·
Stockholm
International Peace research Institute’s (SIPRI) repot said that India is the
world’s 4th biggest military spender in 2018.
·
The
United State topped the list of top five spenders that together accounted for
60% of the global military spending in 2018.
US to withdraw from U.N Arms Trade
Treaty –

·
US
is withdrawing from the U.N Arms Trade Treaty, in response to concerns from gun
rights activists that it could impinge on American’s right to bear arms.
·
Former
US President Barrack Obama signed the treaty in 2013 and sent the treaty to the
senate for ratification.
·
The
Trump administration had withdrawn from a number of International Agreements including
the Iran Nuclear deal.
CBSE announced new internal exams –

·
CBSE
will conduct 2-level exams for class 10 Mathematics and English exams in which
20 mars internal exams will be conducted by respective schools and 80 marks
will be given to theory.
·
The
circulars has been sent to schools with proper guidelines and will be
implemented from board 2020.
·
A
total of 20 marks will be assigned for school-based assessment in each of the
exams.
Bajrang: 1st Indian to
fight at Madison sq. –

·
Bajrang
Punia is set to become the first wrestler from India to fight at the iconic Madison
square Garden in New York.
·
He
is currently the world no.1 in the 65-kg weight category.
·
Bajrang
Punia will be up against two-times US National Champion Yianni Diakomhalis at
the ‘Grapple at the Garden – Beat the Streets’ event.
Niramai won gold prize at Hack Osaka –

·
Niramai,
the Bengaluru-based health tech startup nailed gold prize at the Hack Osaka
event, Japan, imprinting India’s technology at the global level.
·
The
startup is developing an AI-based solution for early detection of breast
cancer.
·
The
concern is the brain child of Geetha Manjunath and Nidhi Mathur, making their
inception in 2016.
Alfred won Golden Environmental Prize
–

·
Alfred
Brownell, an environmental lawyer, an activist was awarded the Goldman
Environmental Prize.
·
He
was awarded for exposing alleged abuse by the palm oil company Golden Veroleum
Liberia and helping to prevent it from converting about 52 km2 of the forest.
·
He
won the Goldman prize along with five others for grassroots environmental
activism.
Nitendra finished at 27th
in London Marathon –
·
Indian
marathon runner, Nitendra Singh Rawat finished 27TH in the men’s Elite
race of Virgin Money London Marathon 2019 at London, the UK.
·
It
was won by EliudKipchoge of Kenya for record fourth time.
·
This
was the fourth fastest in his career and his second fastest time in this
season.
Beirut set ne Guinness World record –
·
Lebanon’s
capital Beirut has set a new Guinness World Record for the number of national
flags raised in a city for 24 hours.
·
The
Beirut Alive Association, on 28 April, raised a total of 26,852 Lebanese flags
breaking New York’s Waterloo record of 25,599 flags.
·
The
event was organised under the patronage of Prime Minister Saad Harir.
Government to take over NHB from RBI –
·
The
Government will be taking over the National Hosing Bank (NHB) after buying
entire stake for Rs. 1,450 crore from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
·
The
RBI has exited the NHB, thus making it a fully government-owned entity.
·
RBI
was holding 100% stake in the NHB, the housing finance regulator.
Eric Schmidt left Google board –

·
Google-parent
alphabet said that Eric Schmidt, who was chief of the internal giant for a
decade, will leave the board in June.
·
Mr.
Schmidt stepped down as chairman of the Alphabet board at the start of 2018,
remaining a member but shifting to a role as a technical advisor.
